On both the local and the national levels, Phi Alpha Theta is a very active organization. At the Society's biennial national convention, students are provided with the opportunity to meet distinguished historians and to present essays they have written. Outstanding scholars appear on the program of every biennial convention so that members of the Society have the opportunity to hear their contributions to historical scholarship. Students and professors may get to know others interested in the field of history, including their own specialization, and to enjoy the dialogues that take place.
The UW-Madison chapter of Phi Alpha Theta also strives to organize activities of benefit to all undergraduate history majors. The popular series, "So You're a History Major: Now What?" addresses questions history students have about the job market, resume and interview skills, funding for graduate school, applying for and getting accepted to graduate school, and choosing classes on the UW-Madison campus. Other planned activities include peer advising sessions, publication of our journal ARCHIVE, and introductions to department graduate students and faculty members.
